Seeing More, Safely

Digital X-rays are one of the most important diagnostic tools in dentistry— and one of the most misunderstood when it comes to safety. At Elevated Dentistry, we use the DEXIS Nomad handheld X-ray system alongside our CBCT unit for panoramic imaging— both engineered for low radiation exposure that meets and exceeds rigorous safety standards. Digital X-rays produce significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays, with advanced shielding technology designed to protect both patients and our team.

Why X-Rays Are Necessary

X-rays aren't optional extras— they're how problems get found before they become serious. Many of the most common dental issues develop in areas that simply can't be evaluated through a visual exam alone: between teeth, beneath the gumline, inside roots, and in the surrounding bone. Without current imaging, there's no complete picture of your oral health.

Keeping your X-rays current is an essential part of your care— a lot can change in a year, and routine imaging allows Dr. Bottorff to catch what a visual exam alone cannot.

What Digital X-Rays Can Reveal

Digital imaging gives Dr. Bottorff the ability to identify a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Tooth decay, including cavities between teeth not visible during an exam
  • Fractures in teeth and existing restorations
  • Infections in tooth roots and surrounding areas
  • Cysts and abscesses
  • Bone loss
  • Unusually positioned or developing tooth roots
  • Developmental abnormalities

What to Expect

A small digital sensor is placed inside your mouth to capture images, which appear on a nearby monitor almost instantly. The process is quick, comfortable, and gives Dr. Bottorff immediate access to detailed images of your teeth and supporting structures.
